Frequently Asked Questions
How do I purchase original artworks?
In addition to those exhibited in galleries, from time to time some originals may be listed for sale on this site. Check the store for prints and other merchandise.
Do you do commissioned paintings?
Yes, depending on other commitments. Send me a message via the contact page explaining what you have in mind. Please be as specific as possible (time, budget, size, medium, etc.).
I want to get your artwork tattooed on me. How do I get permission to do this?
Unless otherwise noted, you may use the artwork displayed on this page as the basis for a tattoo. In return, I ask that you credit me if you post pics of the tattoo on social media. Also, if possible, send pics of your tattoo which I may share on my own website.
What type and brand of paint do you use?
I do not have an endorsement from any of these companies, but here is a list of what I typically use:
Oil painting — Winsor & Newton mixed with Liquin. I also use a variety of Golden or Liquitex impasto mediums or modelling clay for building up thick areas.
Watercolor — Winsor & Newton as well as Sennelier l'Aquarelle.
Acrylic and airbrush — Liquitex, Molotov, and Golden. I also use a variety of inks.
Digital sketching — a Wacom Cintiq.
What brand of airbrush do you use?
Mostly Iwata and Paasche.
For airbrush, what type of surface do you paint on?
For painting on paper, I prefer hot press watercolor paper to cold press because it’s smoother and produces better results when applying fine detail.
For painting on canvas, I prepare each with four to five coats of premium gesso. I sand each layer with progressively finer wet sanding blocks until the final layer is completely smooth to the touch. This is a labor-intensive process and typically takes three to five days depending on the size of the canvas.
Does AI play a role in any of your paintings?
Art is a form of human self-expression, and therefore it’s a very personal process. My work is hand-painted regardless of the medium and I tend to avoid any sort of automatic process which might influence my compositions or artistic choices.
Even when I work digitally, I like to keep the painting process as simple and pure as possible.
May I visit your art studio?
This is on a case-by-case basis and by appointment only. Unless your name is Ridley Scott or John Carpenter…
How long does it take you to complete a painting?
That depends on the size and type. Sketches and smaller works can be done in as little as a day, while some of the larger, more complex pieces can take 8 weeks or more.
Do you teach art classes?
Not at this time. However, I share thoughts about painting on my blog.
Is there a book of your paintings available?
It’s on my to-do list.
Is your artwork available on t-shirts?
Check the store page for availability.
